    進行關於腦與意識的概念性與實證研究;特別強調意識障礙,尤其是植物人狀態。

    臨床目標:改善昏迷和植物人患者的診斷、預後和治療。

    科學目標:研究意識的神經先決條件與意識相關神經區。

    哲學目標:釐清昏迷或植物人患者在停止醫療處置、改善生活品質和判定腦死亡的規範標準。

    技術轉移:設計可攜式腦電圖裝置,用於在昏迷和植物人患者中檢測隱蔽意識的神經元信號證據。

    社會責任:(一)協助照顧昏迷或植物人患者的家庭安排最佳的神經內科、神經外科及復健科照護;(二)推動公眾對於意識障礙的認識與教育;(三)遊說改善公共政策,以幫助意識障礙患者及其家庭。

    臨床試驗資料集:植物人狀態患者(n=81)的腦部代謝、腦血流、自發性神經活動及對10毫克使蒂諾斯的反應。
