Abstract:  Wisdom is the best form of practical reasoning. It is
the common concern of philosophers, social scientists, moral
and political psychologists, and neuroscientists. But what is wisdom?
What does a practically wise person know? In this talk, I propose
a fully articulated theory of wisdom by integrating the skill model of
wisdom with the success theory of well-being, arguing that wisdom

Title:  How prevalent is shadow education? Who uses it and why?
             A cross-national comparison among eighth-graders in 2019

Abstract: In many countries, students participate in private
tutoring after school to improve their academic performance.
Using representative data from 40 jurisdictions, this study
presents between-country differences in the prevalence and
the duration of after school participation in mathematics and
science tutorials. Gender, family socioeconomic background,
and academic performance are analyzed for correlations
with participation in after school tutorials. The national
comparisons reveal some unique characteristics in how
Taiwanese students make use of private tutoring after school. more...
