What Is a Microaggression?－A Standpoint Expressivist Account

摘要：Microaggressions are generally understood as small and subtle insults or putdowns that members of marginalized social groups experience on a daily basis. However, this general definition is vague, and scholars disagree about the scope of the concept and its moral significance. In this talk, I argue against Javiera Perez-Gomez’s expressivist account of microaggressions and propose my own “standpoint expressivist account.” Though capturing important aspects of microaggressions, Perez-Gomez’s analysis is under-inclusive and lacks a clear method of identification. By contrast, my standpoint expressivist account addresses these two limitations by centering the standpoint of marginalized individuals.
