After over 15 years at ICPSR at the University of Michigan – with more than 10 years guiding the Data Sharing for Demographic Research (DSDR) program – Dr. John E. Marcotte has retired, concluding a distinguished career spanning three decades in demography, population health, biostatistics, and data science. In recognition of his many contributions, the Regents of the University of Michigan have honored Dr. Marcotte with the title of Archivist Emeritus. [More]

ICPSR and Make Data Count Collaborate to Elevate the Impact of Data in the Social Sciences

Through a collaboration between Make Data Count and ICPSR, citations for social science datasets identified and curated by ICPSR are now included in the Data Citation Corpus, which aggregates data citations from multiple sources. Meet Elisabeth Shook, Data Impact Librarian at ICPSR, who combines her love of research and problem-solving to uncover and analyze how ICPSR data is used across published and unpublished literature. Elisabeth is passionate about making data discovery easier for researchers while also finding joy in puzzles, spinning yarn, and exploring new ways to connect people with ICPSR’s data resources.

Q: What’s one ICPSR dataset you find fascinating, unusual, or you’ve had a hand in getting deposited?
A: The Bibliography is an intriguing collection of data in its own right. With over 120,000 citations collected, each using one or more curated ICPSR studies, there are a wealth of possibilities for analysis and insight. In fact, we recently made the entirety of the Bibliography citation collection available as a downloadable CSV and will update it regularly to provide researchers a way to explore the collection as data. You can explore the Bibliography dataset.
