50 Years and Beyond: The History and Prospects of the Institute of European and American Studies (1972-2022)

The postdoctoral scholars recruited in recent years have all actively participated, contributed, and interacted with invited scholars and experts during academic lectures and conferences organized by our Institute. The Institute held the first, second, and third “Taiwan Graduate Students Conference on European and American Studies” on October 1, 2019, October 6, 2020, and October 1, 2021, respectively. During these conferences, a considerable number of papers at the doctoral and master’s level were presented. The conferences provided a platform for mutual exchanges and publication of papers among Taiwan’s academic communities, and inspired young Taiwanese students to conduct EU studies. Aside from holding conferences where papers are presented and discussed, the IEAS researchers also offer classes to college students at the National Taiwan University, National Taiwan Normal University, National Chengchi University, National Chi Nan University, and Fu Jen Catholic University on how to write papers in English for presentation at international conferences. In addition, IEAS researchers support private colleges and universities with fewer educational resources by offering courses in logic, cognitive philosophy, philosophy of mind, etc. IEAS researchers are also often invited to various universities to give lectures in related fields, and serve as reviewers for master’s and doctoral thesis projects in different departments of the universities.
