50 Years and Beyond: The History and Prospects of the Institute of European and American Studies (1972-2022)

monographs published outside of the IEAS. The Institute publishes book series, such as SinoAmerican Relations, Essays on Important Decisions of the U.S. Supreme Court, Selected Papers on the Conference on American Literature and Thoughts, and European Union Studies, to name a few. The IEAS has been publishing these books series on a regular basis even before the age of digitalized databases, which is evident that this Institute’s research contributions have long been a staple in the academic communities. Sino-American Reports (the predecessor of Sino-American Relations), began publication in 1980; it is Taiwan’s only series of reports on Sino-American relations. It collected early reports on China-U.S. relations from major newspapers, which provided the basis for analyzing the relationships between the United States, the Republic of China, and the People’s Republic of China from all levels of politics, military, economics and trade, law, official exchanges, etc. In 1992, SinoAmerican Reports was renamed Sino-American Relations. Academic conferences were held every two to three years, with local and foreign scholars and experts in related fields invited to present and discuss timely papers on influential developments on U.S.-Taiwan-China relations. After each conference, the papers were gathered and published as a book series, titled Sino-American Relations, focusing on detailed exploration on Sino-American economic and trade relations, the Taiwan Strait crisis, and other pertinent issues. Academic papers were subject to a rigorous review process. Each comprehensive report contained various government documents, such as the 30 agreements between the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) and the Coordination Council for North American Affairs U.S.-Taiwan-China Relations book series 27 50 Years and Beyond: The History and Prospects of the Institute of European and American Studies
