Distinguished Research Achievements (1)Researchers Honored with Awards and Project Grants Under the Division of Humanities and Social Sciences of Academia Sinica, the IEAS is a multiarea and multidisciplinary research institution focused mainly on Western civilization and order, with research faculty whose expertise cover literature, history, philosophy, law, political science, and sociology. With tireless effort, various studies have yielded substantial and concrete results, for instance: distinctive studies on British and American writers and underprivileged ethnic literature, which have led to a surge of related domestic research; long-term studies on British and American analytic philosophy and philosophy of mind, which have been well-received in the academic communities; research results on EU human rights and climate changes, which are of excellent quality and are highly regarded by the EU and international academic communities. In addition, the studies on U.S.-Taiwan-China relations and social development and policy in the United States and Europe have both contributed productive and meaningful results, attracting attention and recognition in academic communities. Aside from strengthening fundamental research, the research results of the IEAS also carry a practical value, which offers important references for Taiwan’s government agencies when formulating relevant policies, and consequently, provides significant contributions to national development and social progress. The research faculty of the IEAS has so far received a total of 187 grants and commissions from such agencies as the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), formerly the National Science Council (NSC), of the Executive Yuan, R.O.C. (see Appendix III for details). The prominent Outstanding Research Award of the NSC/MOST, is but an example of a reward where IEAS researchers account for a high proportion of past winners—an extraordinary accomplishment for a single research institution.
