Today we are excited to welcome Deen Freelon (University of North Carolina) to discuss his presentation The Post-API Age Reconsidered: Social Media Research in the '20s and Beyond. This talk explores the changes that different social media platforms have made to their API and the ways in which researchers can access and analyze data from those sites. Dr. Freelon also talks about a research project he is currently working on with Facebook and how the relationship between platform and researcher is made, and what expectations other researchers should have if they choose to work with social media platforms directly. In this case, the team never analyzes the data directly; they design the research, write the papers, and specify the statistical models, and Facebook's data scientists run the models and send along the results.
