ICPSR Director and Former ICPSR Council Chair Among 2024 AAAS Fellows

ICPSR Director Maggie Levenstein and Former ICPSR Council Chair Chandra Muller will be recognized as 2024 Fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). This honor places them among the 471 scientists, engineers, and innovators who have been elected 2024 Fellows for their scientifically and socially distinguished achievements throughout their careers. Levenstein, an economist, is being recognized “for distinguished contributions to industrial organization and historical economics, especially information systems, competition dynamics, cartels, and antitrust policies, as well as systematic improvements to national social science data policies.” Muller, a sociologist, is a professor at the University of Texas at Austin Sociology Department. Her research focuses on how education shapes population health. Muller leads two nationally representative, longitudinal studies — High School and Beyond (HS&B) and the National Longitudinal Study of the Class of 1972 (NLS-72). Q: What is a favorite memory or instance you have working with ICPSR? What makes ICPSR a great place?

A: Working with John Marcotte and the DSDR team has been so great – our phone calls are always fun and there are lots of stories! It was also awesome when ICPSR Director Maggie Levenstein awarded Wendy and me the Piper Simmons Data Contributor of the Year Award in 2022.
