Michael Traugott Wins Roper’s 2024 Mitofsky Award for Excellence in Public Opinion Research

The 2024 Warren J. Mitofsky Award for Excellence in Public Opinion Research recognizes Michael Traugott's lifetime contributions to the field of public opinion, particularly his role in advancing the theory and methods in studying public opinion across numerous contexts; upholding the standards by which public opinion research is conducted; and promoting the understanding and education of public opinion research among the public, the media, and policymakers. Through his contributions and service to the field, Traugott’s unparalleled career and impact have embodied the Roper Center’s <https://umich.us14.list-manage.com/track/click?u=22efdb2c40e55b8126be00251&id=8bcd5fe37d&e=e234a716ba> mission to improve the practice of survey research and broaden global understanding of public opinion through the use of survey data. Congratulations to the Health and Medical Care Archive on its two-year award from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF)!

ICPSR received a two-year award from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) to continue its work building the Health and Medical Care Archive <https://umich.us14.list-manage.com/track/click?u=22efdb2c40e55b8126be00251&id=aa20242328&e=e234a716ba> (HMCA) and enabling the reuse of data collected by RWJF grantees. Amy Pienta, an ICPSR research professor, is the principal investigator of this archiving project. Sara Britt and Chloe Perry are the HMCA data project managers. Currently, HMCA makes available data from 308 studies, including surveys of the American public about public health, attitudes towards health reform, and access to medical care; surveys of health care professionals and organizations, public health professionals, and nurses; evaluations of innovative programs for the delivery of health care, and many other topics and populations of interest. The new project will add data from 25 additional studies over the next two years and promote using the data archive to researchers and the public.

Congratulations to the National Addiction and HIV Data Archive Program (NAHDAP) on its award from National Institute on Drug Abuse at NIH!

ICPSR received an award from the National Institutes of Health’s National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) to continue operating and developing the National Addiction & HIV Data Archive Program <https://umich.us14.list-manage.com/track/click?u=22efdb2c40e55b8126be00251&id=16d4586527&e=e234a716ba> (NAHDAP). Amy Pienta is the principal investigator of the project, and will be supported by project staff including Michal Kirkwood, Jen Koski, Alieysa Patel, Chelsea Samples-Steele, and Meg Valade. NAHDAP currently disseminates data from 600 studies relevant to research on drug use and HIV infection, including long-term and high-impact studies such as the Population Assessment of Tobacco and Health (PATH) Study and Monitoring the Future (MTF). The new award will allow NAHDAP to expand its data curation services and support additional investigators throughout the data archiving process, thereby increasing the scope of data accessible to the drug use and HIV infection research communities.

ICPSR Membership Rates Posted for FY2026

During its April 2024 meeting, the ICPSR Council <https://umich.us14.list-manage.com/track/click?u=22efdb2c40e55b8126be00251&id=ca4296a4b6&e=e234a716ba> reviewed and approved membership rates for FY2026, the period running July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026. ICPSR’s Constitution <https://umich.us14.list-manage.com/track/click?u=22efdb2c40e55b8126be00251&id=848ebc9ffe&e=e234a716ba> requires that the ICPSR Council establish annual membership dues, post, and notify members at least one year in advance of an increase. Q: What is your favorite part of your job?

A: I really enjoy meeting prospective data depositors at conferences and on outreach calls for the Acquisitions team. I get to learn about leading research happening in the social sciences, and they get to learn all about what we do here at ICPSR. Many thank us for even existing. It reminds me of how far-reaching our mission is.
